Postdoctoral Researchers
I don't have funding for a postdoc currently, but am happy to explore options for postdoctoral fellowship proposals (such as through the NSF EAR postdoctoral program)
Undergraduate Researchers
I am looking for enthusiastic undergraduate students who are interested in working on research projects under my supervision, either during the year, or next summer. I am currently just getting field research off the ground, so there may be opportunities to help with that, as well as to work on data synthesis efforts or initial lab experiments. Please reach out via email at lxm500 AT engr.psu.edu if you're interested in talking in more detail.
Graduate Students
I am seeking one or two graduate students (PhD preferred, but MS considered) to join my research group at PennState this coming Fall 2019. Potential research foci include, but are not limited to, watershed hydrology and biogeochemistry in urban or urbanizing watersheds, and performance assessment, design, and planning of green stormwater infrastructure. We typically use a mix of investigative methods including lab and field approaches and geospatial analysis and data synthesis. More information on past and ongoing work is available here.
Candidates should have a background in environmental engineering, hydrology, or related quantitative environmental fields. For those interested in applying at the PhD level, a prior MS or other relevant experience is preferred. Students can be admitted through the PennState Civil Engineering graduate program, Water Resources Engineering option (https://www.cee.psu.edu/academics/graduate/how-to-apply.aspx; Dec 31 deadline) or the Agricultural and Biological Engineering graduate program (https://abe.psu.edu/graduateprograms/admissions/how-to-apply; Dec 15 deadline).
At PennState, there are many opportunities for interaction with other researchers interested in tackling similar environmental challenges. I am part of a larger Water Resources Engineering group in our Civil and Environmental Engineering department, and we have fledgling development of cross-campus initiatives to connect the diverse researchers interested in water. There are also opportunities to engage in a multi-department Biogeochemistry program and PennState centers in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Outside of academics, there are many opportunities for fun and recreation in the 'Happy Valley' of central Pennsylvania.
If you are interested in joining my group, please reach out via email at lxm500 AT engr.psu.edu with your CV and some background on yourself and your interest in coming to PennState and working with me. I am happy to talk with you further and answer any questions you may have.
